Love Stories, Part 2
Handle Like Eggs
An installation in the InSpace Gallery, Urban Institute of Contemporary Art, Grand Rapids, Michigan
Love Stories, Part 2 is a reflection on the successes and complications of human relationships. Using heterosexual, romantic relationships as a model, this work explores the dynamics of love and connection through the use of multiple metaphors such as paddleballs, tugboats, machine parts, and trophies.
The installation incorporates characteristics of both spirituality and pragmatism by setting up a space that is a cross between a dime store and a chapel, addressing the sacred and quotidian aspects of love.
This piece is the second part to the Love Stories saga that began in 2000. Love
Stories, Part 1 was the first annual public project by Vertigo Press.
